About biotechnology

Unlike many other sprays, which typically contain perfume, surfactants, or possibly alcohol, Pure Effect draws its power from bacteria and the technology behind it – biotechnology. The bacteria biologically break down the source of the odor and outcompete other odor-producing bacteria.

What is biotechnology?

Biotechnology involves using microorganisms (bacteria, molds, or other tiny life forms) to create something beneficial for humans. In fact, we've been doing this for thousands of years, long before we even knew microorganisms existed. However, we've always been able to observe their processes and experience how they change our surroundings: dough rises, cheese matures, milk turns into yogurt, and liquids containing plants or fruit turn into wine or beer.

Through observing nature, we’ve learned to harness this invisible and mysterious force. But we’ve also had to learn strategies to limit microorganisms’ impact: how to preserve food, prevent decay, and – in modern times – stop the spread of infections. Microorganisms are both useful and destructive, allies and enemies.

Modern biotechnology uses beneficial microorganisms in a highly intentional way. We've also discovered their unbeatable ability to break down and produce substances. Today, biotechnology is used to solve societal problems and significantly improve our lives – with microorganisms that manufacture medicines, produce biogas, and break down environmental toxins.

Pure Effect uses biotechnology in cleaning, garment care, and odor removal. This means we use selected, effective bacteria to fight dirt, grease, and odors.
